A Chapter in Review: Dr. C: The Vision and Ministry of W.A. Criswell
Edited by: Katie Arnold
Chapter One – The Lord’s Day
In the opening pages, this biography on the life of Dr. W. A Criswell captures the reader’s attention and
leaves him in awe. The many years of faithful service are easily noticeable, while the giant preacher,
visionary and leader is portrayed. Primarily, this chapter describes Dr. Criswell’s Sunday morning routine,
but the introduction and foreword identify many of the critical historic facts about his life. At the age of
17 he is ordained to preach. After 18 years of pastoring and academic pursuits, Dr. Criswell accepts the
call (September 1944) to pastor First Baptist Church of Dallas, which he shepherds for 45 years.
Unquestionably, the Sunday morning service in the final stages of Dr. Criswell’s ministry reveals
he is well respected, conservative, a passionate preacher and prayerfully prepared for the task.
